Thought Field Therapy® (TFT) is a form of energy-based psychotherapy. It is one of several therapies that are based on the ancient oriental meridian system (same system is used for the practice of acupuncture). Simply put, it is emotional acupressure.
Dr. Roger J. Callahan, a psychologist specializing in phobias and anxiety, first formatted this system, Thought Field Therapy®, in the 1980’s. Since then, the energy psychology field has grown rapidly with many other forms of this therapy: Tapas Acupressure Technique (TAT), Emotional Freedom Technique (EMF), and Instant Emotional Healing. These therapies are based on the mind-body connection.
It is well known today that our thoughts and emotions affect our health. It is also true that many health problems can be resolved by dealing with these emotions. It is important to note that conversely many emotional issues can also be resolved by working with the body. For example, when a person is having a massage there is sometimes a spontaneous emotional release.
The Oriental belief system identifies pathways within the body through which life energy flows, collectively called the Meridian System. The energy is referred to as chi (pronounced chee). It is believed that, when this energy flows freely, the body is in a state of balance and is able to heal itself. However, when you experience a physical or emotional imbalance, this energy becomes blocked, thus inhibiting the natural healing process. Sequenced tapping on specific meridian points removes these blockages, thus restoring the natural balance within your body.
TFT is gentle, rapid, non-invasive and very private. As this treatment is self-administered, it is not necessary to disclose the details of the disturbance. However it is important to note that information shared is kept in confidence and can be very helpful in targeting the root of the disturbance.
Thought Field Therapy® is an effective treatment for depression, anxiety, phobias, compulsions, chronic pain, as well as trauma from assault or accident in children, adults and those developmentally challenged. It is equally successful in the cessation of smoking, compulsive eating and addictions.
Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) was created by Gary Craig in the mid 1990's after he had trained with Dr. Roger Callahan in Thought Field Therapy and Voice Technology. Gary Craig simplified the procedure and it is used as a comphrehensive technique for clearing all disturbed emotions and balancing the meridian system.
Both forms of "tapping therapies" are used in the energy services of Superior Living Consulting.
