"Therapeutic Touch™ is a contemporary interpretation of several ancient healing practices. Facilitating healing, emotionally and physically, is a consciously directed energy exchange that positively re-patterns energy imbalances and restores the integrity of the energy field. When the field is balanced the body has greater capacity to heal itself."
(from "In Touch"...the Therapeutic Touch Networks of Canada)
Therapeutic Touch™ (TT) is founded on a theory that the human body, mind, emotions and intuition form a complex, dynamic energy field. This energy field is governed by pattern and order. In health, the field is balanced, and in disease the energy is characterized by imbalance and disorder.
The therapy involves holding the hands two to six inches away from the individual’s energy field while moving the hands from the head to the feet in a rhythmical, symmetrical manner.
Developed in the early 1970’s by Dora Kunz, a natural healer and Dolores Krieger, Ph.D. R.N., Therapeutic Touch™ (TT)continues to be scientifically studied and researched. TT is now accepted as a nursing modality and is widely used in many hospitals. Toronto East General Hospital, Toronto, Ontario had a Therapeutic Touch Clinic within the hospital and has an active TT volunteer program.
A recognized Therapeutic Touch Practitioner (RP) is trained to use their hands to sense imbalances in the field. The practitioner meets the person’s needs by restoring the energy flow in the direction of wholeness and health.
A Recognized Therapeutic Touch Practitioner is a member of the Therapeutic Touch Network of Ontario (or their own province) and Canada. As such the practitioner signs a code of ethics and is accountable to the network.
The website for TTNO (Therapeutic Touch Network of Ontario) is http://www.therapeutictouchontario.org
The Therapeutic Touch client would ideally allow one hour for a session of TT. The session would include a brief history taking determining the purpose of the visit, a TT treatment which may last anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes, depending on the person’s need and a brief rest period. Sometimes a TT treatment may also include visualization or relaxation techniques. The client remains fully clothed. The treatment may be done sitting or lying down on a massage table or bed.
